Nagpur: A 19-year-old NEET-qualified youth, who was critically ill after exposure to chlorine gas in Godhani, has been discharged from a private hospital, where he was among three critically ill patients shifted from Mayo Hospital.

All three patients responded to treatment and were discharged in a stable condition, the hospital said. Dr Barokar said severe chlorine exposure can deteriorate rapidly and requires timely referral, continuous monitoring and specialised critical care. He said Yash’s recovery was particularly heartening as he had returned home and was preparing to enter medical college.
Yash Khawle was in extremely critical condition when he was admitted to a private hospital. The hospital’s critical care team, led by Dr Rajan Barokar, head of critical care and ECMO specialist, initiated intensive monitoring and specialised respiratory care. Chlorine exposure can cause severe respiratory injury and, in serious cases, acute respiratory distress and respiratory failure. The team worked round the clock to stabilise the three patients, with intensivists, nurses, respiratory-care specialists and other departments involved in their treatment. For Yash, recovery has brought him back to his plans for a career in medicine. After clearing NEET , he is awaiting admission to an MBBS course and is preparing for the admission interview.
