Chandrapur: A tiger killed two farmers in separate attacks within 24 hours and barely 5 km of each other in Sindewahi forest range of Chandrapur district, triggering panic in villages along the forest fringe.
The latest victim, Premila Mahadole, 40, was harvesting paddy in her field near Bhandala village on Sunday evening when the tiger attacked her. The attack came a day after 60-year-old farmer Nana Kambadi was killed by a tiger while working in his agricultural field at Palasgaon Jat, also in Sindewahi range, on Saturday evening. However, the animal’s identity is yet to be confirmed.
Her body was later found in the field. Forest officials suspect that the same tiger may have been responsible for both attacks, given the proximity of the locations and the short interval between the killings.
With the latest death, the toll from human-wildlife conflict in Chandrapur district has risen to 35, according to forest department figures.
