An FIR was registered against Suraj Patil for illegally possessing voter enumeration forms
NAVI MUMBAI: The police have registered an FIR against Suraj Patil, a nodal BJP youth wing committee member, for illegally possessing and converting special intensive revision (SIR) voter enumeration forms for “personal use” and for breaking the maintenance of secrecy of voting under Section 314 of the BNS and Section 128 of the Representation of People Act. Bhojane said, “MLAs Jitendra Awhad and Rohit Pawar have tweeted the video regarding the original SIR forms at the Kharghar shop. He alerted the police. The accused (Patil) had decamped from the Kharghar police station, leading to high drama throughout the night. Five booth-level officers (BLOs) served with show-cause notices were suspended by the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) chief Mangesh Chitale. They include three data entry operators working as booth-level officers from a private company, Saunik Integrated & Security Pvt Ltd, Bhayandar, engaged by the PCMC. We demand action against the Panvel SDO as he did not take preventive measures despite our complaint about forms filed at the BJP offices. The FIR was filed only after more than hundreds of our workers assembled at the police station. After learning about the incident, Raigad district communication head of Shiv Sena (UBT) Prasad Bhoir lodged a complaint with the electoral registration officer.
The matter came to light on Thursday, after an advocate working for the Shiv Sena (UBT) noticed hundreds of original SIR forms lying at a photocopier’s shop in Kharghar.
Inquiry Committee Established for Comprehensive Investigation
A two-member inquiry committee has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation. The committee includes Nanasaheb Kamathe, the deputy municipal commissioner of Panvel, and an assistant electoral registration officer. Their mandate is to ensure a detailed examination of the relevant issues at hand.
