Nagpur: Congress functionaries from Nagpur city and rural district units on Thursday resolved to campaign unitedly for Abhijit Wanjarri, the party’s candidate in Nagpur division Graduates’ Constituency poll.
Former minister Sunil Kedar told the gathering that the poll was not just another election but a battle of ideology. Kedar said Congress was trying to uphold the values embedded in the Constitution, “while the BJP-led alliance was out to destroy them”. They said Rahul Gandhi was fighting for the party and asked every worker to understand the Congress ideology. City Congress president Praful Gudadhe and rural unit president Ashwin Bais said their cadres are ready to take the party’s message forward and ensure victory for Wanjarri.
Speakers urged workers to set aside differences within the party, work for the organisation and reach out to every voter. The party also targeted the functioning of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Later, Central Nagpur block president Rizwan Ansari led a ‘Mat Bachao Desh Bachao’ padayatra. Prasad, Gudadhe and party workers raised slogans against Kumar’s functioning.
Earlier, the party took out a ‘Samvidhan Jagar’ bike rally to protest the alleged deletion of eligible voters’ names through the SIR exercise.
