The order came into effect at 12.01am on Friday and will remain in force till Jan 4, 2027, unless withdrawn or modified earlier
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Police commissioner Pravin Pawar has ordered all private establishments, including banks, hotels, malls, petrol pumps and places of worship, to install high-quality CCTV cameras covering at least 50 metres beyond their premises to help curb crime and improve public safety. Violations will invite action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The order cited rising crimes in public places and areas surrounding private establishments, noting that CCTV footage had aided investigations and served as scientific evidence in court. It, however, stated that many establishments either lacked surveillance systems or had cameras with poor coverage, quality or recording capacity. Establishments must provide footage to police on demand. Owners and managers have also been directed to immediately alert the nearest police station about any suspicious activity detected on CCTV cameras. As the order could not be served individually on all affected persons, it was issued ex parte. Authorities have directed that copies be displayed at police stations, offices of assistant and deputy commissioners of police, tehsil offices and municipal ward offices, besides being publicised through public address systems and other means. Copies have also been forwarded to senior state and district officials, including the additional chief secretary (home), director general of police, divisional commissioner, municipal commissioner, district collector and principal district and sessions judge.
