Oil stock seized by FDA in Beed on Wednesday
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted five major raids in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Beed districts on Wednesday under its Safe Food Safe Maharashtra campaign, suspending four licences and seizing banned gutka worth Rs 3.63 lakh. The licence of a dhaba on Khuldabad Road was also suspended after a re-inspection revealed 10 major defects.
“The lapses included non-segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, stagnant water in food-handling areas and food handlers working without protective gear such as aprons, gloves and head covers,” Karkale said. FDA’s Beed division also suspended the licence of a bakery in Majalgaon taluka after detecting unhygienic food handling practices, insanitary conditions and the absence of pest-control records.
FDA joint commissioner Shrikaant Karkale told TOI , “The outlet lacked accredited food-testing records, failed to maintain hygiene standards, did not monitor cooking oil quality, used uncertified food-grade packaging material and delayed waste disposal. The most serious violation was the use of the same oven for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food preparation.”
In Sambhajinagar, FDA suspended the licence of a local franchise of a multinational pizza chain in Waluj MIDC’s Bajaj Nagar after finding repeated food safety violations despite an earlier improvement notice.
“Suspension of licenses has been carried out in the public interest and legal action will be taken if concerned businesses continue their operation during the suspension period,” DV Patil, FDA assistant commissioner (food), told TOI .
