Bombay HC rejected psychiatrist’s anticipatory bail plea on Sept 11
Nashik : Police on Friday arrested govt psychiatrist Dr Nilesh Jejurkar in connection with the death of his wife and ayurveda practitioner, Manisha (40), who was found hanging at the couple’s residence in the Gangapur Road area on March 6. On March 8, Manisha’s sister had lodged a complaint alleging that Jejurkar was responsible for her death.
Jejurkar has been booked for abetment of suicide under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to police.
On Sept 11, Bombay HC rejected his anticipatory bail plea, observing that a prima facie case indicating mens rea and harassment had been made out against the applicant.
Complainant’s counsel, advocate Abhaysinh Bhosale, said Jejurkar then challenged the HC order before Supreme Court through a special leave petition (SLP). Following the registration of the case, Jejurkar sought anticipatory bail before a Nashik sessions court, which rejected his plea. He subsequently moved Bombay high court and continued working at Nashik Civil Hospital while his application was pending. The court also noted that certain circumstances raised questions that could potentially point to murder rather than suicide. A bench of justices Satish Chandra Sharma and Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, however, declined to interfere with the HC order and dismissed the petition.
