Thane: A special Pocso court in Thane on Thursday sentenced a 35-year-old security guard to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl inside the elevator of a housing society in June this year.

The defence said the accused’s actions were merely an expression of casual affection and familiarity with children. Court Proceedings and Compensation in Society Case
During the trial, the prosecution presented five witnesses: the child victim, her mother, a fellow watchman, the society manager, and the investigating officer. Evidence included CCTV footage from the society. The court has ordered a fine of Rs 5,000 against the guard, which is designated as compensation for the girl.
