Fresh showers replenished many natural water bodies in Latur
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Heavy rainfall of above 65mm in 31 revenue circles in Marathwada over the 24 hours ending on Friday morning revived hope of survival of the available kharif crops in the region amid expectations of moderate showers in the next few days. The average Sept rainfall deficiency of Marathwada came down to 59% from the earlier 76% following the latest showers. Dharashiv (89%) still shows maximum rainfall deficit in Sept, followed by Latur (71%), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (66%), Beed (62%), Jalna (61%), Parbhani (45%), Hingoli (39%) and Nanded (37%). Marathwada, encompassing eight districts, has so far received 423mm rainfall since June 1. The region still has 31% rainfall deficiency as compared to 119% surplus showers reported during the corresponding period last year.
Because of poor monsoon this year, farmers have been complaining of irreparable damage to agriculture.
Independent analyst and director of MGM APJ Abdul Kalam Astrospace Science Centre and Club Shrinivas Aundhkar said parts of Marathwada could get light to moderate showers over the next few days. Central India, including Marathwada among other parts of the country, may get rain under its influence, together with the beginning of the early withdrawal phase of monsoon,” he said. Parbhani recorded 42mm rain and Hingoli 38mm. Nanded (19mm), Latur (17mm), Beed (14mm), Jalna (10mm), Dharashiv (6mm) and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (5mm) also experienced showers. The fresh showers could help in survival of the available kharif crops in many rain-fed agricultural areas of Marathwada. “A fresh low-pressure system is developing over the Bay of Bengal.
