Uddhav was in the city for leading UBT’s “Tumse Na Ho Payega” campaign highlighting state govt’s failure in addressing the issues and fulfilling the promises made to Marathwada region. Speaking to the reporters here on the issue of Salian, Uddhav said neither he nor his son Aaditya had any connection with the case and questioned the continued attempts to associate them with it. Aaditya has also said so. Such character assassination can happen to you people too,” he said. Aaditya took to social media and denied knowing or having met Salian and said attempts to associate him with the case were aimed at damaging his reputation. He said the allegations had continued for nearly six years despite there being no evidence linking him to the case. Referring to the death of former BJP leader Gopinath Munde, he said several questions about the circumstances of his death remained unanswered and wondered whether there was a deliberate effort to leave the region without strong leaders. Uddhav said political disagreements with Chavan could not diminish his contribution to Marathwada. There is no major leadership left in Marathwada,” he said. He said the ongoing disputes over reservation should not become a reason for communities to turn against each other.
The UBT chief lambasted the BJP-led govt over a series of issues gripping Marathwada region as well as Maharashtra and asked why the govt was letting the farmers commit suicide and not announcing required relief. He also took on deputy CM Eknath Shinde . “We have no connection with this case. This is not an issue concerning me alone. “My family has been facing such allegations for years. I would take legal action if the campaign does not stop,” he added. Uddhav’s comments came days after the CBI registered a case in connection with Salian’s death. Uddhav also raised questions over what he described as the diminishing presence of prominent political leadership from Marathwada. “I had differences with some of these leaders and those differences continue. But are leaders themselves being eliminated? Uddhav asked. He cited examples of former chief ministers Shankarrao Chavan and Vilasrao Deshmukh, as well as former Union minister Pramod Mahajan, while speaking about the region’s political leadership. “Mahajan had once regarded as a potential prime ministerial candidate, while Deshmukh had also been a major political figure from the region. He (Deshmukh) is no more. On the reservation issue, Thackeray alleged that differences were being created among various communities, including Marathas, OBCs, tribals and Dhangars.
