Maharashtra has recorded a rainfall deficit of 30-35%, while Marathwada faces a shortfall of 50-55%, affecting nearly 280 talukas, according to Pawar. He said NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar had already urged the chief minister to provide Rs 50,000 per hectare as drought assistance. Pawar also demanded immediate payment of the Rs 17,000 per hectare crop insurance compensation announced last year, settlement of current insurance claims, Rs 25,000 assistance for agricultural labourer families, fodder camps and a complete waiver of education fees for students in drought-hit regions.
