After three months of treatment at three different hospitals, the woman succumbed to her internal organ injuries during treatment.
NAVI MUMBAI: A 29-year-old engineer, identified as Sagar Kadam and residing in Ghansoli, was arrested by Rabale police for the alleged murder of his 29-year-old wife, whom he allegedly assaulted in a fit of rage after she repeatedly spoke to someone over the phone. Later, on August 13, she told her brother that Sagar had allegedly beaten her, causing the internal injuries. Based on her statement, police registered an FIR against Sagar under Section 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Inspector Sawant said, “After three months of treatment at three different hospitals, she succumbed to her internal organ injuries during treatment at Zen hospital, Chembur on Sept 4. Subsequently, we invoked BNS section 103 that determines punishment for murder and arrested the accused Sagar Kadam on Sept 6. The Belapur JMFC court has remanded him to police custody till Sept 11.”
She initially told police that she had sustained the injuries after falling from a staircase. The assault allegedly caused severe injuries to her internal organs.
Rabale senior inspector Balkrushna Sawant said the woman left home for work on June 5 but did not return.
Investigating officer API Shekhar Tadvi said, “The family of the deceased woman told the police not to reveal her identity to the media by claiming that it will tarnish their image in the society. Hence, we have contacted the media representatives requesting not to reveal the victim’s identity. While, the arrested accused Sagar Kadam earns a living by driving his own T-permit car. Her brother subsequently lodged a missing persons complaint.
