The explosion occurred around 10 am outside Umate Courier Services, near Udyog Bhavan on Vilasrao Deshmukh Road, while workers were unloading parcels from a pickup vehicle. An investigation under the Explosives Act has been launched to examine the legality of the consignment, the identities of the sender and recipient, and whether the necessary permissions were obtained for transporting such material through a courier service.
One employee carrying parcels into the office sustained minor injuries, while another worker inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries, according to superintendent of police Amol Tambe. Investigators seized damaged parcel boxes, their contents and other suspicious material for forensic examination. CCTV cameras installed nearby captured the incident. Police are still verifying the quantity of airguns and cartridges in the shipment and whether any other explosive material was present.
