Nagpur: A four-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped from Raipur was rescued in Nagpur (rural) after they intercepted a bus at Mouda toll naka early Tuesday and the captor was taken into custody, said police.
Police sources said the girl’s abduction was linked to a financial dispute. Singh, who was involved in online business, is suspected to have kidnapped the girl to pressure her father to repay the money in instalments, said police. After the girl went missing from the Saraswati Nagar area of Raipur, her father registered a kidnapping case. Raipur police circulated details of the girl and the suspect to police stations in neighbouring areas. After the girl’s disappearance, police obtained Singh’s mobile number. Singh would briefly switch on his cell phone, allowing police to trace its location near Lakhandur in Bhandara district. Based on the mobile surveillance and other clues, police suspected Singh could travel towards Nagpur through Mouda. Police teams then began checking vehicles at Mouda toll naka. For nearly three hours, officers checked buses, tractors, trucks, mini-trucks and private vehicles. Nagpur (rural) police had also circulated photographs of the missing girl and a probable photograph of Singh on WhatsApp groups. Officers suddenly spotted the girl with Singh in a bus heading towards Nagpur and stopped the vehicle.
Singh was friendly with the girl’s mother and frequently visited the family’s house and would bring clothes and gifts for the family, but the relationship strained over the unpaid loan, said sources.
