Kolhapur : District guardian minister Prakash Abitkar has urged state govt to establish a bench of the Maharashtra Revenue Tribunal (MRT) in Kolhapur, arguing that litigants from western Maharashtra and Konkan are facing delays and mounting costs in pursuing revenue-related cases.

Abitkar said a large number of cases from the four districts are pending before the existing tribunals, forcing litigants to travel long distances for hearings. There is need of a separate bench at Kolhapur for speedy justice,” he said. “Now since a bench of Bombay HC has been set up in Kolhapur, there is a need for a revenue tribunal as well,” Abitkar said.
Abitkar has written to state revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule seeking a separate MRT bench for Kolhapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. The tribunal currently has its principal seat in Mumbai and benches in Pune, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. It hears appeals against orders passed by district collectors and adjudicates revenue-related disputes. “The revenue related matters are piling up and huge number of the matter from these four districts are pending before their respective tribunals. The litigants have to travel to the tribunals, cost them time and money. The minister pointed out that Kolhapur already hosts a bench of the Bombay high court and argued that the region now requires a revenue tribunal bench as well. Download the TOI App.
