The inspections were conducted by additional district collector Nitin Vyavhare and other senior officials as part of crop-damage assessments following the declaration of drought in 12 of the district’s 15 talukas. The administration has directed field-level teams to complete crop-loss assessments and e-crop surveys on priority. The surveys are intended to capture the actual extent of damage before relief measures are finalised.
Officials estimated that cotton productivity could fall by around 50%. The drought has triggered a wider relief response across the 12 affected talukas. The state govt has announced 12 measures, including land-revenue concessions, crop-loan restructuring, suspension of recovery of agriculture-related loans and relief on current electricity bills for agricultural pumps. Violations will invite action under Disaster Management Act, 2005 and applicable service rules.
Because of inadequate rainfall, they found flower and square shedding in cotton fields and a reduction in the number of bolls. Officials visited fields in Devada and Nagala (C) in Chandrapur taluka and reviewed the crop panchnama process. Paddy crops were also found to have suffered stunted growth, while low rainfall had adversely affected vegetable, tur and soybean crops. Collector Vasumana Pant has directed banks to issue written instructions stopping recovery of agriculture-related loans from farmers in the drought-affected areas. She has also made it clear that complaints of recovery will invite action against the bank concerned. Bank officials have been asked to provide details of crop-loan disbursement, loan waivers and loans requiring restructuring, while their presence has been sought at gram sabhas to explain the restructuring process. The administration has simultaneously directed every gram panchayat in the drought-affected talukas to take up at least one work under Employment Guarantee Scheme. Departments have also been asked to use District Planning Committee funds for drought-relief works and inform villagers. Pant has separately ordered all govt officers and employees to remain at their headquarters in view of the worsening drought situation. Except for an extremely urgent medical situation, they cannot take leave or leave their headquarters without prior permission. Box- Fadnavis orders assessment of paddy infestation
