Phone link goof-up costs woman Ladki Bahin monthly dole

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Amravati: A 41-year-old woman from Nandgaon Khandeshwar in Amravati district was allegedly deprived of benefits under the state govt’s ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ after her mobile number was found linked to the Registration Certificate (RC) of her neighbour’s four-wheeler.

On further verification, it was revealed that the vehicle, purchased in 2018, belongs to a 70-year-old woman living next to the complainant’s house. The woman has alleged that her mobile number was used and linked to the vehicle records without her knowledge or consent, due to which she was disqualified from the scheme despite not owning any vehicle. Confirming the development, the police station officer Anand Pidurkar said, “We have registered a case based on the woman’s complaint. Police said they are examining the RTO records and the role of the persons involved in the registration process. The error came to light after the beneficiary noticed that the monthly financial assistance under the scheme had abruptly stopped. Upon inquiry, she found that govt verification records showed a four-wheeler registered in her name, making her ineligible as per the scheme’s norms that exclude families owning a four-wheeler. However, the complainant’s mobile number was linked to the car’s RC. Her mobile number is mentioned in the RC records of her neighbour’s four-wheeler. We are investigating who provided the number, why it was entered, and what the motive was behind it. Download the TOI App.
