Residents Raise Alarm Over Contaminated Water Supply in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Residents of Roshan Gate and Wahed Colony in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are reporting severe water contamination and extended supply gaps. Many households claim they receive water only once every 11 to 12 days, with the initial flow being discolored, foul-smelling, and sometimes containing worms.
One resident, Mohammed Yasir from Wahed Colony, stated, “We have to intentionally run the tap for the first 20 minutes because the initial water is heavily contaminated. It comes out yellow and sometimes contains worms. Only after flushing a large amount does clean water start to flow.”
The aging pipeline network is blamed for the issue, with residents like Nisar Ahmed noting that porous underground lines allow sewage and drainage water to infiltrate the water supply. “Water stagnates in the pipelines for nearly two weeks between supply cycles, creating conditions for worms and larvae to breed,” Ahmed explained.
Former Congress corporator Mohsin Ahmed has submitted a memorandum to the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC), calling for urgent action. He highlighted the public health risks posed by the consumption of contaminated water.
Residents are demanding a reduction in the interval between water supplies, the replacement of old pipelines, and door-to-door water quality testing in their areas. Aarif Shaikh, another resident, emphasized, “The administration cannot play with the lives of citizens.”

Dattatraya Gaikwad, in-charge of CSMC’s water supply section, said he would look into alleged issue of water contamination at the earliest. civic officials said the city’s upcoming new water pipeline project was expected to improve supply frequency and address infrastructure deficiencies.
