Rohan Parikh, a 24-year-old man, was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly using a counterfeit Prime Minister’s Office identity card to enter Jio World Plaza at BKC while prohibitory orders were in effect. The arrest took place recently, and on September 21, the 37th Metropolitan Magistrate Dattatray Khedekar granted him bail.
Parikh was granted bail on the execution of a personal bond of Rs 50,000. “The allegations against the accused by holding fake ID card and entry in the prohibitory area required to be proved during trial and in view of the educational career of the accused, incarceration of the accused along with hardened criminals would cause to the prospective progress of the accused, therefore, in these circumstances, the accused deserves to be released on bail. ” On Sept 7 around 6 pm, Parikh allegedly entered Jio World Plaza along with two persons, including a private security guard carrying a licensed firearm. The prosecution alleged that Parikh entered the premises despite prohibitory orders and initially produced a govt identity card. The court observed that the allegations regarding the fake identity card and entry into the prohibited area would have to be proved during trial. It noted that the alleged fabrication and entry did not, at the prima facie stage, attribute any specific overt act involving unlawful use of the identity card. The court further observed that the relevant documents and electronic devices had been seized, reducing the possibility of tampering with evidence. Considering the circumstances, the court held that no purpose would be served by keeping Parikh behind bars and granted him bail. Download the TOI App.
