Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : The Ganesh festival began with traditional fervour and devotion in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Monday, marking day one of the 10-day festival, with Ganesh mandals across the city and households installing idols of Lord Ganesha amid chants and dhol-tasha. Several major Ganesh mandals in the city completed installation by late afternoon before taking out processions and evening aartis were performed amid large gatherings. Several housing societies also witnessed grand festivities with families uniting to give a rousing welcome to Bappa. Thus, we experience diverse rituals and celebrations during Ganesh festival every year, making the festivities more memorable,” Prajakta Kantule, a resident of Beed bypass road said. “This is our fourth year of celebration of Ganesh festival together. Besides Maharashtrain families, we have a family each from Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh in our apartment. At Nirala Bazar, the central office of the Ganesh Mahasangha marked the beginning of the festival with installation of Ganesh idol in the presence of local MP Sandipan Bhumre and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC, Ambadas Danve among others.

As part of its social initiatives during the festival, the Mahasangh has announced a special cleanliness drive at memorials of great personalities across the city on Tuesday.
