Shivaji University, Kolhapur declares exam fee waiver for students: The wider industry impact

Kolhapur: The Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) has decided to provide exemption from examination fees to eligible students from 16 talukas of Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur districts that have been declared drought-affected under ‘Trigger-1’ (first phase) during the 2026 kharif season. This decision comes after Dr Prakash Bachhao, divisional joint director for higher education, Kolhapur, wrote to the SUK and other varsity officials stating that no examination fees should be collected from eligible students residing in 265 drought-declared talukas in the state and whose annual family income is up to Rs1 lakh. The deadline for submitting the proposal is Oct 12 for Sangli district and Oct 13 for Satara and Kolhapur districts.

Dr Ajitsinh Jadhav, director of the exam and evaluation department of SUK, said, “If eligible students from the concerned talukas have already paid the examination fee, they must submit a proposal along with necessary documents for fee reimbursement. Instructions have been issued in this regard to the concerned colleges and departments of the university’s examination and evaluation board through a circular. The waiver of examination fees includes students from Panhala, Radhanagari, Gaganbawda, Bhudargad, Ajara and Chandgad talukas in Kolhapur district, Kavathemahankal, Miraj, Atpadi and Jat talukas in Sangli district, and Satara, Khatav, Maan, Phaltan, Khandala and Mahabaleshwar talukas in Satara district.
