The deceased have been identified as Baija Gavit (63) and her husband Sakharam Gavit (66). Surgana police have arrested their grandson, Devidas Gavit (33), and his wife, Vanita (28), and registered a case of murder under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The incident took place around 12.30am on Wednesday at the family’s home in Kelune village.
Devidas, Vanita and the elderly couple had been living in the same house and frequently quarrelled, according to the police. As per the complaint, the elderly couple used to return home in an intoxicated state almost every day and verbally abuse Devidas,” said inspector Prashant Ahire, of the Surgana police station. Police said the repeated quarrels allegedly culminated in a violent attack during the night.
