Nashik: A district court has ordered the freezing of 14 bank accounts belonging to Nashik Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) for failing to pay court-awarded compensation to Nashik Panchvati Panjrapol Trust, marking a major development in a long-running land compensation dispute. Civil judge (senior division) Shailesh A Bafna passed the order on Sept 2 while hearing execution proceedings arising from a 2006 compensation decree. Rs 36.52 crore was outstanding as of Feb 18, 2026, according to the decree-holder trust. During the hearing, the trust informed the court that Bombay HC had stayed execution of the decree in 2007 on the condition that the entire decretal amount be deposited. However, only Rs 50 lakh was deposited, it submitted. The dispute subsequently reached Supreme Court, which in Aug 2023 upheld the lower court’s order on the issue of limitation. Taking note of these lapses, the court directed the freezing of 14 APMC accounts held with cooperative, nationalised and private banks. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on Oct 8.
The court noted that nearly two decades after the decree was issued, the amount due to the trust remains unpaid. The court observed that despite prolonged litigation before Bombay high court and Supreme Court , the decretal amount had not been fully cleared. The court also warned that any bank permitting withdrawals in violation of the order would be held liable for the amount involved.
The court noted that APMC had failed to comply with earlier directions, had not provided a definite timeline for payment and had not fully disclosed details of its bank accounts. It ordered the banks to stop all withdrawals and deposit the available balances, along with account statements, before the court.
