Pune Zilla Parishad Inspects Anganwadi Food Quality After Controversy
Pune: The Pune Zilla Parishad has initiated inspections of foodgrains, pulses, and nutrition meals served at Anganwadis throughout the district. This action follows a complaint from an Anganwadi worker who raised concerns about the poor quality of food supplies.
The worker’s claims gained significant attention after a social media video showcasing the substandard food went viral. In response, the worker received a termination notice, which sparked widespread backlash. Following the public outcry, the termination notice was revoked, allowing the worker to retain her position.
Khandagle further said they are also planning to exchange dry peas with green peas in the menu. Once the report is in, we will see what action needs to be taken as per law,” said Khandagle. “Most of the pulses need to be soaked overnight and then cooked the next morning. These materials are stored for almost two months in the anganwadis, so hygienic storage of food grains, pulses, spices etc is very important. Wherever the inspection team found issues or wherever the anganwadi workers complained to the team, we have asked the contractor to exchange the material immediately.
