Coimbatore: A 19-year-old female college student was arrested by Pollachi east police for stealing gold ornaments from her father’s friend’s house to buy a two-wheeler for her boyfriend.
The arrested student has been identified as R Joy Princy, 19, a second-year student at Govt Arts College in Pollachi. Police said the complainant, H Tamilselvan, 59, of Chandrapuram Road near Unjavelampatti in Pollachi, is friends with the accused’s father, Rajesh, of TVK Nagar in Pollachi. On August 16, Joy Princy visited Tamilselvan’s residence.
Meanwhile, police have launched a hunt to apprehend Janagan Siva who is absconding. After she left, he noticed that nine sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in the wardrobe of his house were missing. He lodged a police complaint suspecting her of the theft, and a case was registered. She was subsequently arrested and produced before a court and thereafter remanded in judicial custody at Coimbatore Central Prison.
