Palakkad : A 21-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident near Mangalamkunnu in Cherpulassery died early on Sunday. The deceased was Devika of Arayankode in Kozhikode.

The pickup van was going to Kozhikode from Palakkad. Abhijith was reportedly driving the vehicle. In the impact the front portion of the pickup van was completely damaged. The three occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and were rescued after residents and other travellers made strenuous efforts. They were initially taken to a private medical college hospital at Mangottu. Devika was later shifted to Kozhikode for specialised treatment but succumbed to her injuries. The family had travelled to Palakkad to deliver a refrigerator purchased for Devika’s sister Adithya, a bank employee there. The accident occurred while they were returning home. The accident occurred on Saturday evening when the pickup van in which Devika, her sister Arunima and nephew Abhijith were travelling collided head-on with a truck coming from Tamil Nadu .
