Guestworker trespasses into house, rapes 9-yr-old girl, held
Tirunelveli: Police have arrested a 27-year-old guest worker from West Bengal for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl after trespassing into her house in the early hours of Aug 25. The accused trespassed into the house around 1.15 am and was involved in penetrative sexual assault. Further investigation led to the identification of the suspect as Suraj Dev Roy, 27.
A senior police official told TOI that the girl and her parents were asleep in separate rooms. The incident came to light in the morning when the child informed her parents and started crying. Based on a complaint, Valliyoor All Women Police registered a case under relevant sections of Pocso Act and BNS and began investigation. A police team headed by Valliyoor DSP Venkatesh conducted a preliminary investigation with the girl and local public. On examining CCTV footage of the area, it was found that a man had passed through the back of the house at the time of the incident. Further investigation is underway.
He was arrested on Monday and remanded to judicial custody.
