The direction came while disposing of a public interest litigation filed by P Radhakrishnan of Ilayangudi, who said the existing government hospital lacked adequate infrastructure, medical equipment and inpatient facilities to serve residents of the taluk and neighbouring villages. Madurai : The Madras high court has directed the authorities to expedite the proposal for a new government hospital in Ilayangudi in Sivaganga district and initiate construction within two months. However, the project had not progressed. The state informed the court that the land had been identified and earmarked for the hospital and the proposal was pending government consideration. A division bench of Justice P Velmurugan and Justice K K Ramakrishnan directed the authorities to expedite scrutiny and finalisation of the estimate and proposal within two weeks.
