Kozhikode : Kerala Institute of Organ and Tissue Transplantation, an organ transplant hospital coming up in Kozhikode, will be completed within 30 months, said chief minister V D Satheesan. The state-of-the-art institute is being constructed on 20 acres near Golf Link Road in Chevayur at a cost of Rs 271 crore. The new hospital complex will have 350 beds and 10 operation theatres. A fully equipped dermatology hospital will also be constructed on the same campus in Chevayur at a cost of Rs 35 crore. The centre is planned as a major research institute, with an annual target of 1,100 corneal, 520 kidney, 50 heart, 40 lung and 120 bone marrow transplant surgeries.

Satheesan said bringing all organ transplant-related services under one roof would reduce the current cost of treatment by nearly two-thirds. Download the TOI App. He was speaking after inaugurating the silver jubilee celebrations of Kerala Heart Care Society in Kozhikode on Saturday.
