Kozhikode : Participants of the 12th edition of the Chaliyar River Paddle, Asia’s second-largest long-distance kayaking expedition, are turning their journey into a conservation mission. Organised to promote river conservation and keep water sources clean, the three-day expedition covers 68km along Chaliyar. Over the first two days, the paddlers collected several kilograms of plastic waste from the river. The second leg resumed from near the Mambad regulator-cum-bridge and ended at Murinjamaad, a major tourist destination in Keezhupuram panchayat. The participants, using kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and traditional sailboats, are enjoying the scenic beauty of Chaliyar while collecting plastic waste along the route. Download the TOI App.
The expedition began around 3pm on Friday from a riverbank near Manavedan Higher Secondary School in Nilambur and concluded at Mambad on the first day. The three-day awareness expedition concluded on Saturday, at the Jellyfish Water Sports Centre near Chaliyar in Cheruvannur, Kozhikode.
