The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Thrissur : Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has registered a suo motu case following media reports that students and parents were injured when the roof of the venue hosting swimming competitions as part of the State School Sports Meet in Thrissur collapsed.

The protesters, mainly from BJP and DYFI, also demanded the resignation of sports minister and education minister, holding them morally responsible for the alleged official negligence. Thrissur witnessed a series of protests on Saturday demanding action against officials whose alleged negligence led to the mishap.

Commission member Jalajamol T C said they have sought explanations from director of general education, district police chief, deputy director of education (Thrissur) and district child protection officer. BJP and LDF councillors alleged that Congress councillors attacked them while they were raising the issue of alleged serious negligence in organising the aquatic competitions.

Mayor Niji Justin and deputy mayor Prasad said the corporation had no role in organising the sports event and accused the opposition of attempting to rake up unnecessary issues.
