Kochi : Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has decided to continue classes in online mode until Friday following the spread of chickenpox among students last week. The university extended the suspension of offline classes as a precautionary measure to prevent further transmission of the disease.

He said students who had developed symptoms of chickenpox had left the campus and the occupancy in the university hostels had fallen below 50%, which would significantly reduce the chances of further spread. The university shifted classes online after 12 students of the school of engineering (SoE) were diagnosed with chickenpox, while several others developed symptoms. A health department official said no new cases had been reported after the symptomatic students returned home.
