Kochi : Govt will take steps to revive the Jaiv unit at Nadukkara, Muvattupuzha, which has been non-functional for over a year. It used to function as a pineapple processing unit.
The revival plan was announced by agriculture minister T Siddique during his recent visit to the unit.
He said the unit would be modernised by replacing damaged machinery, upgrading existing systems, and improving infrastructure facilities. The minister said the additional director of the agriculture department has been assigned to submit a comprehensive report on the revival of the Jaiv unit within a month. He also said after receiving the report, a decision regarding the necessary technical and financial interventions would be taken at govt level and the revival measures would be expedited. The minister said the aim is to bring the unit back to a profitable condition while protecting the interests of farmers and workers.
He also pointed out that the Jaiv unit has a significant role in ensuring better markets for the state’s pineapple farmers in Vazhakkulam and more opportunities for the manufacture of value-added products.
