Flash floods in Nepal
Kochi: Thirty-one Keralites, part of a 38-member group, who travelled to Nepal for a holiday, arrived at Kochi international airport early on Sunday. Speaking to the media at the airport, the group said that a 20-minute delay at a Buddha temple saved their lives. They spent an extra 20 minutes at a Buddha temple on the request of the women in the group, which in turn saved their lives, they said.

They said that the members were on their way from Kathmandu to Pokhara when the flash floods struck Nepal. They said that police blocked them on the way and they saw several frantic residents. The group members said that from a distance, they saw water sweeping away buildings from an entire region.
They had gone through a travel agency and started their journey from Kochi. That delay helped them avoid a bridge and road which were washed away, they added. On the way, they saw huge amounts of mud and debris flowing forcefully through the river. Traffic was subsequently disrupted, and they remained stuck for more than two hours. The vehicle was then diverted along a forest route, forcing them to travel more than 60km extra. They had to travel throughout the night through an alternate route to reach a safe place. The group had set out by road from Kathmandu to Pokhara at 10am on Wednesday. The group reached Pokhara around 2am on Thursday.
