Police sources said the incident took place during the 69th death anniversary of Immanuel Sekaran, when a group of people belonging to DKV (Devendra Kula Vellalar) reportedly placed speakers on the roadside. Police further said that the issue reportedly stemmed from a land issue between two groups within the village; however, it was poramboke land. A senior police officer told TOI that the situation was under control and considering the situation, a police deployment was made around the village as a part of the security arrangement.

Objecting to this, people from the Thevar community requested DKV community members to place speakers within their streets. Subsequently, they didn’t place speakers in either place. Objecting to this, the DKV community held a road roko, added the police. Soon after the incident, police authorities held separate talks with both groups. During discussions, a few stones were allegedly thrown on a nearby road, prompting a brief police chase. Village elders and officials urged residents to disperse peacefully. A peace meeting was organised to resolve the issue amicably. Senior police officers, including the Madurai range DIG Abhinav Kumar and Virudhunagar SP Gautam Goyal, are monitoring the situation. A case against both the communities was registered by the Thiruthangal police. Download the TOI App.
