Madurai: A day after overnight rain flooded several Madurai neighbourhoods, the corporation on Friday set Dec 6 as the deadline to complete pending monsoon-related works, as councillors raised concerns over damaged roads, overflowing sewers and incomplete drains. The council also approved 300 civic works worth Rs 14.6 crore.
Among the drainage projects are a pipeline connecting the Ismailpuram 15th Street pumping station to the Santhaipettai pumping station near Munichalai at Rs 98 lakh and Rs 28.5 lakh repairs to UGD pipelines on North Masi Street. Gaurav said around 1,200 personnel are involved in mosquito-control work across the city’s five zones, as the monsoon increased the risk of water stagnation and mosquito breeding.
