Man booked for impregnating minor, four arrested in abortion case
Kanyakumari : A 26-year-old married man has been booked under the Pocso Act for impregnating a 17-year-old nursing student in Kanyakumari district, while two doctors and a nurse were arrested for allegedly performing an abortion on the minor. Following an inquiry, police registered cases against Kishore , 61; his daughter Saranya, 32, both doctors; and nurse Renuka , 56, for terminating the pregnancy of a minor.
Police said the girl, a first-year nursing student and a resident of the same locality as accused Dhanesh , had been in a relationship with him for several months. The girl’s family, fearing social stigma, discussed the issue with Dhanesh and his wife, Anitha Rose, according to the police. Police also arrested the wife of the accused for concealing the offence. During this period, she allegedly became pregnant. The matter came to light after her parents noticed physical changes in her and questioned her, following which she reportedly disclosed that Dhanesh was responsible for the pregnancy. Subsequently, the minor was taken to a private hospital in Nagercoil, where her pregnancy was terminated. The incident later came to the attention of local residents, prompting the girl to approach the Kanyakumari all-women police station with a complaint about the abortion and those allegedly involved in facilitating it. Police booked Dhanesh, who is absconding, under the Pocso Act and arrested his wife for helping conceal the offence.
The three were arrested and remanded on Friday.
