He said any probe that concluded the police had played no role in the disruption of that year’s Pooram could only be termed a sham. Kumar called on the new govt to order a fresh Pooram probe into the incidents and said the devaswom would extend all its support to an independent inquiry. Eight eight people, including office-bearers of the Thiruvambady Devaswom, have been named as accused, and that the charges include attempting to cause a riot, inciting rebellion against govt and promoting enmity between different groups, according to the report submitted to the police chief by the crime branch.

Thrissur : Thiruvambady Devaswom office-bearers on Wednesday strongly objected to the crime branch investigation team’s reported findings, which name them as accused in the 2024 Thrissur Pooram disruption case.
Devaswom secretary K Gireesh Kumar said the devaswom had not received any official communication regarding the report’s contents and had learnt of the findings only through media reports. The move, he said, amounted to turning the defenders into the accused. It was beyond imagination, he added, that Thiruvambady Devaswom office-bearers, who work relentlessly throughout the year to ensure the Pooram is conducted with all its splendour and excitement, would do anything to sabotage the festival.
