A 35-year-old woman, Sangeetha Arul Lal of Chennai, died in a mud slip that occurred near Velathussery Palli in Theekkoi on Erattupetta-Vagamon road. In another incident, an 80-year-old man died when mud slipped onto a house at Nadubagham village in Poonjar. Officials said two more people were there in the house and they survived the accident. Sangeetha, a Southern Railway employee, and her co-traveller were reportedly standing on the roadside after parking the two-wheeler when the mud slip occurred. They were travelling towards Vagamon. The deceased has been identified as Joseph. Later in the evening, following a directive from chief minister V D Satheesan, disaster management authority commissioner V Vigneshwari convened a meeting of Idukki and Kottayam district collectors and assessed the situation.
