Hyderabad: A 50-year-old man from Nalgonda died in a drilling accident in Zambia on Thursday. His mortal remains are being processed for repatriation to India.

His relative and fellow villager Chaitanya Kumar told TOI that Lingaswamy was drilling a bore when the machinery allegedly recoiled and struck him. He was shifted to a hospital about a kilometre away moments after the incident, but the doctor said he had died before he was brought there,” Kumar said. He had two sons, one of whom died last year, Kumar said. Kumar said the incident had been declared an industrial accident and that it was not being treated as a case involving negligence. He said the necessary authorisations for repatriation had been issued by the Indian High Commission, the Telangana govt and Zambian authorities.
Janapala Lingaswamy, a resident of Urumadla village in Nalgonda district, had been living in Zambia for the past six years and was working as a geological operator at an industrial site. “He was using the wrong machine to drill a bore at the site when the machine hit back. He died on the spot. Lingaswamy’s wife and surviving son live in Nalgonda. The family was informed of the incident and has been making arrangements to bring Lingaswamy’s mortal remains back to Nalgonda. Download the TOI App.
