Hyderabad: Hyderabad cyber crime police have registered a case after an armed forces officer complained that his wife, an airline cabin crew member, was being subjected to sustained cyber harassment involving digitally morphed explicit images and videos.

Based on the complaint, cyber crime police registered a case on Tuesday under Sections 66C (identity theft) and 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, and Sections 336(4) (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The complainant alleged that the content, along with objectionable text, was circulated through Instagram , Reddit and Discord in about 200 posts, allegedly with the intention of extorting money from the woman or her family.
