Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha demanded the state govt to immediately

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha demanded the state govt to immediately construct a coffer dam at Kannepalli pump house to tackle drought and save farmers. She set the deadline November end for starting works and warned intense agitation at Kannepalli pump house if the construction is not initiated. She urged the govt to keep politics at bay while dealing with farmers’ issues.

“ Despite prevailing drought conditions, nearly 2 TMCs of Pranahita river water flows unused daily. Constructing a temporary coffer dam at 93 meters above the Kannepalli pump house can divert this water seamlessly to Annaram and Sundilla reservoirs, completely bypassing the damaged Medigadda barrage and recharging the entire water network,’ Kavitha said. She said the proposed solution requires an estimated ₹25 Crore and can be completed within 45 days (by late November). “Out of 1.36 crore acres of arable land in Telangana, crops have been sown in 1.10 crore acres and are now in their critical final stages requiring urgent water and power supplies.

Stating that this is the ideal season for restoration, Kavitha urged the govt to simultaneously initiate repair work at Medigadda without delaying water pumping for crops, the TRS leader said. She urged the govt to procure or purchase power immediately to safeguard the crops,” she said. TRS promised to hand over the technical details of this proposal to the govt and engineers for review.

She said that while the previous BRS govt spent ₹1.80 lakh crore, it largely focused on stabilising existing acreage rather than delivering new irrigation potential through Kaleshwaram, as major canal networks were left incomplete. She exposed Revanth Reddy ’s inefficiency and attacked the Congress govt for failing to provide water to even a single new acre despite spending ₹26,000 crore, prioritising old bill clearances over public welfare and farmers’ distress. Kavitha criticised successive govts for failing to fully utilise the waters of the Godavari and Krishna rivers, which could otherwise ensure zero drought in the state. Giving a firm ultimatum, Kavitha stated that if the govt fails to construct the coffer dam by the end of November, TRS along with local farmers will stage massive agitations at the Kannepalli Pump House and block Congress leaders from entering villages.
