Lucknow University has suspended five students effective immediately, prohibiting them from entering both university campuses. This decision was made on Thursday, although specific reasons for the suspensions have not been disclosed.
The action was taken in view of an FIR registered at Hasanganj police station on Sept 1 under charges related to rioting, causing hurt, intentional insult and aggravated criminal intimidation for a late-night dispute over preparation of rotis at Lucknow University’s Subhash Hostel mess as workers and students engaged in a physical altercation, throwing utensils, tongs and sticks at each other and taking to a fist fight. The suspended students are Rishu Jaiswal, Satyam Pratap Singh, Asmit Singh and Sunil Kumar Singh, all MCom II-year students and an MA Hindi I-year student, Vivek Pandey. The university also cancelled their hostel room allotments and barred them from student facilities during the suspension period.
The suspension order previously issued against a student of MA Hindi II-year, Shivaji Yadav, shall continue to remain effective in connection with this incident as well.
