Agra: Two workers were killed and another critically injured after a mound of soil collapsed on them at a drain construction site in the Sikandra industrial area of Agra district on Monday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Vikas Kumar, 22, and Sushil Singh . Anuj Kumar, 30, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment.
The workers were installing and welding shuttering plates for the drain wall when the soil suddenly caved in, trapping three people underneath, according to police. Police said Anuj was the contractor at the site. Anuj was working with seven labourers when the incident occurred, according to police.
The incident took place near a petrol pump close to the vegetable market, where drain construction work was underway. Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot after being alerted. The three workers were pulled out after considerable effort and taken to a hospital, where doctors declared two of them dead.
