Court orders FIR against 20 cops for fake case against man-son

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Lucknow: A Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Bahraich has directed the registration of an FIR against 20 police personnel, including the then station officer (SO) of Sujauli police station, over allegations that a man and his son were implicated in a criminal case and sent to jail.

Nand Gopal Yadav, a resident of Sujauli in Bahraich, alleged that on Aug 23, 2024, the then SO arrived at his house with around 20 police personnel. The police personnel returned around 7 pm the following day, Aug 24, and forcibly took him and his younger son, Sujeet, to the police station, according to Yadav. After hearing the matter, the CJM directed that an FIR be registered against the then station officer and 19 other police personnel.

He alleged that after they were released, the police implicated both of them in a criminal case, resulting in their arrest and imprisonment. After being released from jail, Yadav submitted several complaints to senior police authorities, seeking action against the personnel involved. The order was passed after the complainant approached the court, alleging that repeated complaints to senior police officials had failed to elicit any action. However, the FIR had not been registered till the filing of this report. They entered the house forcibly and misbehaved with family members.

When no action followed, he filed a petition before the court.
