Kanpur: A 35-year-old woman who had been living at her parental home amid a domestic dispute was allegedly found dead in the Ishan river in the Araul police station area of Kanpur on Monday night.
Police and family members subsequently searched the river and found her body about 500 metres from the spot where her belongings were recovered.
Araul police said the matter was being investigated and that further legal action would be taken based on the postmortem report and the family’s complaint. When she did not return, family members began searching for her and alerted police after finding her dupatta and slippers on the riverbank. Police took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem examination.
The woman left her home without informing her family on Monday, according to police.
Family members said the woman had been living with her son at her parental home for the past five years following a dispute with her husband.
