Kanpur: A 60-year-old disabled farmer was beaten to death allegedly by two relatives following a dispute over taking a tractor through a field in Hamirpur on Monday night, police said. A case has been registered and efforts are under way to arrest the accused.
The incident occurred in Muskara police station area, about 60 km from the district headquarters. A video purportedly showing the assault has surfaced.
Rajbahadur, a resident of Muskara town, owned 3 bighas of agricultural land and was disabled in one leg. His wife, Rajkumari, alleged that Arjun (55) and Jagat (50), members of their family, chased and assaulted him after an argument over access to the farmland.
Rajkumari said the family had an ongoing dispute with the two men over a pathway. Station in-charge Ramasare Saroj said a disabled farmer had been murdered and a case registered on the family’s complaint. As there was no wide access to their fields, their tractor passed through Arjun’s field. Rajkumari alleged that the men chased her husband after family members reached the spot.
