Kanpur: A 72-year-old retired govt employee died after allegedly setting himself on fire at his home in Savitri Nagar, Sanigawan, under the Chakeri police station limits on Thursday morning, police said.
The deceased, a former Class IV employee at the Irrigation Department, left a suicide note in which he mentioned being under mental stress due to a chest-related illness for which he had been undergoing treatment for a long time, according to police. His family told police that he went to the rooftop on Thursday morning, locked the door from inside and allegedly set himself on fire.
He was rushed to Kashiram Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
