Lucknow: A 12-year-old boy was killed and his 10-year-old friend critically injured

Lucknow: A 12-year-old boy was killed and his 10-year-old friend critically injured after a speeding DCM truck allegedly hit their bicycle near Yuko Tiraha in Mal town of Lucknow on Sunday, police said.

The accident took place in front of Yuko Tiraha when the driver of the DCM (UP 30 BT 3261) allegedly rammed into the two children while driving recklessly, according to police.

The driver fled the spot after the accident, police said, adding that the vehicle had been seized and efforts were underway to trace the driver. Mal police station inspector Nawab Ahmed said the body had been taken into custody and necessary legal formalities were being completed. “The deceased, identified as Kunj Gupta, son of Deepak Gupta, was a resident of Mal town. His friend, Preet, son of Ashish, was seriously injured in the accident and admitted to the trauma centre where he is undergoing treatment,” police added. Preet remains in critical condition and has been admitted to the Trauma Centre. After the accident, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Police reached the spot after being informed and sent the body for postmortem. Kunj’s parents are inconsolable following their son’s death. Police have questioned residents and begun efforts to trace the driver.
