Gujral said he casually asked the vendor whether law and order had improved in recent years. “The reason he knew was because he used to be a criminal before 2017 and he now sells bananas,” Gujral recounted, triggering peals of laughter. Sharing the stage with chief minister Yogi Adityanath after receiving the Creator of the Year award, Gujral recalled a conversation with a fruit seller during one of his visits to Lucknow for a performance. When Gujral asked how he could say that with such certainty, the vendor’s response set up the punchline. The witty remark quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the event, with clips of the exchange circulating widely on social media. The anecdote, delivered in Gujral’s trademark deadpan style, added a light-hearted touch to the event. Download the TOI App.
